Explore The History-Rich Finnish Homestead of Rauhala Heritage Farm

Rauhala Heritage Farm is a privately owned heritage farm stretched across one kilometer of our very own private bay, nestled on the outskirts of the town of Sointula, located on Malcolm Island, BC. Rauhala, meaning 'Place of Peace' is an original Finnish homestead left untouched for half a century, hidden away behind walls of forest, ocean, and a rocky bluff. This is a guided tour, rich with history and adventurous stories, relics, and artifacts of settlers' past. You will learn the Finnish history of the land and the placenames of the area. You will explore over 104 acres of forests, including an old-growth giant red cedar and culturally modified trees. Visit the original 1904 farmhouse, remnants of an old coal mining shaft, grassy farm fields, creeks, and beaches. Bring a picnic and linger awhile at our beach camp; take in the fresh air and spectacular views of the ocean, surrounding islands, and mountains of North Vancouver Island. The hike is easy to moderate and will take at least 3-4 hours. Join us for your very own private tour. Experience a living museum, frozen in time.
